Bat Alarm Clock

At OnlineClock.net, we not only create alarm clocks – we also collect them!

So this post is about one of the alarm clocks in my personal collection.

My girlfriend recently returned from a trip to Manhattan, where she ran (and finished!) in the New York Marathon. (Way to go !!!!)

As a gift for me, she purchased this Bat Alarm Clock at a small store somewhere in the Time’s Square area of New York City.

The Bat Alarm Clock is about five inches tall and is made out of a black rubbery plastic that’s fun to grab…it has that cool rubbery kind of feel to it.

A clock with an alarm function can be found where the bat’s face should be. (Oh my god – it’s got a clock for a face – a mutant!)

What’s cool about the bat’s body is that it’s fully posable – you can bend its body and wings into just about any position. The Bat Alarm Clock also has magnets on its feet, so it clings quite firmly to any magnetic surface.

Some of the clock’s functions include the ability to switch from the 12 to 24 hour format, a date display, a display of the seconds, and of course an alarm function…but the coolest feature of the Bat Alarm Clock is that, when moved or jarred a bit abruptly, the two horns on the top of his head blink on and off. The left horn blinks with a red light and the right horn blinks with a green light, and the lights alternate on and off (ie: red horn on, green horn off / green horn on, red horn off).

Taking the Bat Alarm Clock into my kitchen, I quickly found the ideal home for him, where he currently stands at attention: on top of my espresso machine. Each time I push the button on my espresso machine to make a coffee, the horns on this little critter blink off and on, with flashing red and green lights. They remain flashing for about two minutes, and then automatically switch off again.

I now have to watch my caffeine consumption, because this crazy bat has made making a cup of coffee a whole lot more fun!

The Bat Alarm Clock came with a small instruction booklet but I can’t find any manufacturer information in it at all, and I’ve also been completely unable to find anything at all about this product on the internet, which strikes me as being highly unusual.

If you have any information as to the origin of this friendly alarm clock beast, please contact us at the email address listed at the bottom of this page.
