Wake Yourself Up With A Brick To The Head

Hey, Clock Fans: How’d you like to wake yourself up with a brick to the head?

A LEGO brick, that is…

It's a LEGO Block! No, it's a clock radio. Wait - it's actually both!

It's a LEGO Block! No, it's a clock radio. Wait - it's actually both!

As everyone should know by now, we’ve invented the first web-based version of a clock radio, and this means that we’re highly interested in the subject.

So it was with great interest that we discovered that LEGO, the creators of one of the world’s most popular children’s toys ever, has created their own version of a clock radio which will be aimed at young people as its target audience.

The LEGO Clock Radio does indeed have an AM/FM clock radio, as well as a normal alarm clock function.

Other features of the LEGO Clock Radio include:

  1. A snooze function (which is evil! because it encourages oversleeping)
  2. A battery backup, in case the normal power supply dies
  3. The ability to be awakened by either an alarm buzzer or a radio station
  4. An LCD digital clock display with a backlight, so that it can be read in the dark
  5. The backlight display even has an adjustable brightness level

But the really interesting thing about this product is that it simply resembles a giant LEGO block, exactly ten times the size of a normal piece of LEGO!

There are two large knobs on the top of the brick. One is used for tuning in radio stations, and the other one is used for the volume control.

Too bad that that device is not internet-capable, since we’re convinced that the future of the clock radio will be definitely be defined by internet connectivity!

Amazon also reports that, just like a real LEGO brick, the LEGO Clock Radio will actually be stackable, in that you might even be able to stack several different pieces of LEGO electronics together by stacking them atop one another.

Indeed, LEGO apparently plans on releasing a full line of different LEGO-themed electronics gadgets, including this alarm clock radio, an MP3 Player, an even a digital camera.

But even before LEGO’s announcement that it’d be releasing its own version of a clock radio, there have been earlier attempts to create something like this. There is apparently just something about LEGO toys that appeals to everyone’s inner Geek, no matter how old we are.

Take a look at the following video which documents how one Geek created his own version of a LEGO Clock Radio by combining LEGO products with various pieces of his own electronic equipment (for those of you about to Geek out, we salute you!):

Well, it looks to us as if some people have just way too much time on their hands.

And with that, our time is up (man, how’s that for a smooth segue, folks?!)…we bid you adieu until next time…

BTW, LEGO Clock Radios are currently in “preorder” status on Amazon.com.
