Dark Side of the Force Alarm Clocks

“The Force is strong with this one.”

How many of you are Star Wars fans?

Star Wars is cool because most of the films were genuinely well made and they contained great characters.

The coolest of the Star Wars characters is of course…Lord Darth Vader himself.

We are not personally fans of the Dark Side of the Force, but we still consider ourselves big fans of Darth Vader.

Lately while monitoring the Blogosphere for posts and news about new alarm clocks, we’ve become aware of just how many different Darth Vader Alarm Clocks there are on the market!

It’s truly amazing how many different examples of Darth Vader alarm clocks and alarm clock radios we’ve been able to find, and some of these actually look pretty darn neat.

So here’s a run-through on the “Dark Side of the Force” alarm clocks we’ve been able to find so far (if you know of any that we’ve left out, do us a favor and leave a comment with a link to some others). We’ll start with the coolest of these alarm clocks and work our way down to the lamest examples, OK?

Darth Vader Clock Radio

Darth Vader Clock Radio

Yes, here we have the coolest of the bunch, in the form of the Darth Vader Clock Radio. This is an AM/FM Clock Radio in the likeness of the Dark Lord himself. As you can see the hour display fills up his right eye socket and the minute display fills up the eye socket on his left. Tweak the knobs near Darth’s snout to adjust the volume level and to tune in your favorite radio station. The design is well done, since the entire clock radio is composed of Darth’s mask. Cool clock!

Next up we have the Standing Darth Vader Projection Alarm Clock (but sorry – there’s no clock radio function on this hunk ‘o plastic):

Standing Darth Vader Projection Alarm Clock

The Standing Darth Vader Projection Alarm Clock projects the time on your ceiling.

The standing figure of old Darth-Baby in this alarm clock doesn’t appear to move at all, which is lame. What’s kind of cool is the fact that, along with the current time, the Dark Lord’s last name (“Vader”, duh…!) is projected onto the ceiling…kind of like a bat-signal for the Dark Lord. Also, the red bubble on the right side of the image is actually a snooze button (OK, points off for that, because we hate snooze buttons). But what’s cool is that this red dome also acts as a night light, which might be useful for Junior, if he’s not too thrilled with seeing Darth-Baby staring him down in the middle of the night.

This brings us to the third and final installment of this post about Dark Side of the Force Alarm Clocks. This time we have a somewhat older video of a television commercial from the U.S. retail store Target. Apparently Target made a foray into offering wake-up calls to people as a service. (You know the deal: you sign up and request that someone calls you on the telephone early in the morning to wake you up…this is a service offered by most hotels.) What’s kind of interesting is that they apparently thought that a lot of people would get a kick out of receiving a wake up call from, you guessed it, the Dark Lord himself!:

Well, let’s just say that the world seems to be not yet ready for the idea of wake-up calls from Darth Vader, because Target has apparently discontinued their wake-up call service.

We actually discovered several other video demonstrations of Star Wars-related alarm clocks while doing research for this blog post.

If this subject interests you, please feel free to take a look at our Star Wars Clocks playlist on YouTube. In our video playlist you’ll find links to several other Star Wars alarm clock videos which haven’t been mentioned in this post.

Until we meet each other again, Luke: may the (non-Dark Side of the) Force be with you!
