Kit Cat Clocks are simply Purrrfect

Everyone’s seen this amazing clock, but did you ever wonder about what the story is behind it?

The Kit-Cat® Klock had its humble beginning in the mid 1930’s when it brought mystery and excitement with its rolling eyes and wagging tail to an economically depressed nation ready for a smile and a friend. Since then Kit-Cat® has been developing into a recognizable character in cartoons, books, on clothing and other exciting products! His popularity as a positive character increases daily through the Kit-Cat® Fan Club, now boasting over 10,000 dues paying members from around the world.

You have to give the creators of the Kit Cat Clock credit – they truly created an American original.

This clock was originally created in the 1930’s, in the middle of the Depression, and looking at it was one way in which the people having it hard during those times could temporarily forget all their troubles.

Something tells me that the times are once again appropriate for the Kit Cat Clock to have a comeback. Well, kind of. Because if you’re a fan of American pop culture, you know that the Kit Cat Clock has continued to be popular ever since it was first introduced – it’s never been out of style – and this clock has indeed become a paradigm of American kitsch design at its finest.

There’s something hypnotizing about these devices that will have you unable to take your eyes off of them. Their whacked-out design cries 50’s retro, which is why I was surprised to learn that these date back to the 1930’s. Looking at these Kit Kat Clocks, I immediately want to listen to Chubby Checker, slick back my hair, put on my leather jacket and go bowling. (Well, okay, maybe I’ve just eaten too much sugar.)

I must’ve seen Kit Cat Clocks in the background of at least a dozen different films over the years. And I’ve thought about buying one several times. After rediscovering these today, I believe I’m going to finally break down and purchase one for my kitchen.
