Light Alarm Clocks

Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD for short, is no joke.

SAD is a serious form of depression thought to be caused by the absence of light which many regions experience in Winter.  Seasonal Affective Disorder affects up to 10% of the population of Nordic countries such as Finland.

But Seasonal Affective Disorder is not just a problem for countries located far in the North. Some studies show that perhaps 6% of the population of the United States may be affected by Subsyndromal Seasonal Affective Disorder (SSAD), which is a milder form of the more serious SAD.

So a lot of people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder – what treatments are there for it?

Well, for one thing, try to get exposed to more light, sunlight and artificial light.

Doctors also recommend becoming more active – exercise is known to help against various forms of depression.

The main treatments for SAD are:

  1. Light Therapies
  2. Anti-Depressant Medication
  3. Ionized Air Treatments (Negative Ions added to the Air)
  4. Dawn Therapy

Dawn Therapy?,” you ask, “what the heck is that?!”

Well, dawn therapy is a way of using artificial light to simulate natural sunlight, and to wake yourself with increasing amounts of light in the room where you’re sleeping.

Aha – light alarm clocks. It’s all starting to make sense.

Yes, alarm clocks can also be used in therapy! An Alarm Clock Light is an alarm clock device which wakes you up gradually with ever-increasing amounts of artificial light. The artificial light emitted from such a device is especially designed to simulate natural sunlight.

Online Clock offers a wide variety of different kinds of alarm clocks, but as of yet we unfortunately don’t have a light alarm clock. (Good idea – we’ll work on that!)

If you happen to be currently suffering from a bit of the Winter Blues, please don’t let it get you down.

Consider using a light alarm clock.
