Lock Key Alarm

How about an alarm clock that forces you to unlock the alarm with a real key, in order to turn it off?

That’s just what the Lock & Key Alarm does.

Designed as a way to foil the evil snooze function in alarm clocks, the Lock & Key Alarm is a crazy, wacky kind of an idea…but it’s definitely an innovative one.

The basic idea is that, if you’re forced to get up out of bed, find the key to your alarm clock and then go over to it, insert the key in the clock, and then finally turn the key in order to shut off the alarm…the chances are pretty darn good that you won’t be heading straight back under the covers to catch a few more last-minute ZZZzzzz’s:

I often find getting out of bed in the morning a bit tricky. When I have somewhere to be at a certain time, I get up pretty reliably. However when I want to get up it always seems that I manage to turn off my alarm clock before fully waking up.

What is also pretty neat about the Lock & Key Alarm is that it’s not a product that you can buy in any store.

No, clock fans: the Lock & Key Alarm is a gadget that you have to build yourself, in order to use!

(This is also a really nice, informative website that I wasn’t familiar with before. If you have the time, check out some of the other killer hobby ideas they have online.)

So if you feel like creating something and if the Lock & Key Alarm sounds like it’d would work well for you, we wish you happy building!

But if you’re (like me) too lazy to create your own gadget and would still like a way to ward off the Evil Snooze Demons, we recommend simply setting an alarm on our clock.

Make sure your volume control and speakers are turned up LOUD and that your computer, laptop or netbook is placed far enough away from your bed that you’ll be forced to stand up and turn our annoying alarm sound off instead of falling back asleep. (We speak from personal experience – this works!)

Now, that’s a sure way to kill off the Snooze Demons!
