We all know that sleep is an integral part of our lives.

It allows our bodies and minds to rest and rejuvenate.

Sometimes people wake up feeling good, but most of the time we wake up feeling tired, sluggish and unmotivated. So here are some tips from OnlineClock.net to help you wake up feeling refreshed !

1. Go to Bed Earlier

I know it sounds simple, but waking up feeling good begins with getting enough sleep the night before. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that about 40.6 million workers in the United States averaged six hours of sleep or less per night in 2010. Most people don’t wake up happy unless they have gotten an adequate amount of sleep. You may not fall asleep right away the first few times you go to bed earlier, but don’t give up. There are indeed many good reasons why you may need to get more sleep.

2. Choose Your Foods Carefully

Your sleep is very much affected by what you eat! Eating chocolate or drinking wine may seem like a good way to calm your nerves before bed, but these foods are known to upset your intestines while you sleep. Drinking coffee just before going to bed can also irritate your gut and make it difficult to stay asleep. It is also a bad idea to eat dinner within 2-3 hours of hitting the sack. Your body needs time to digest food before you lie down, so try to eat right after you get home from work and have a small snack an hour or two before bed if you are still hungry.

3. Don’t Go to Bed Upset

Resolving conflicts before you go to bed may mean that you stay awake a little later, but any residual anger will make it more difficult for you to sleep, meaning that you will probably wake up cranky and emotionally drained. Some people find comfort in meditating or praying before bed. This is a great option if you are unable to resolve conflict. Prayer or meditation will help you calm your mind and prepare your mind and body for sleep. If you are new to meditation, simply focusing on your breathing while you are taking deep breaths is a good start. Your body will relax and you will sleep more deeply, which leads to waking up feeling energized about the new day.

4. Exercise

Light exercise first thing in the morning will help get your blood flowing and your body moving. Exercising also helps to counteract the effects of sleep deprivation on your metabolism if you are unable to get enough sleep. The good news is that you don’t have to wake up and run five miles to benefit from exercise. Simply stretching your muscles and dancing or doing jumping jacks helps start your day right. Playing music by your favorite band in the background while you are exercising will help boost your mood even more. Exercise will also help you to sleep better at the end of the day. Recent studies have even shown that proper sleep habits can even help you lose weight. All of these are factors why sleep and exercise combined can together combine into a positive synergy, helping you to sleep better, exercise better and generally lead a healthier and happier life.

5. Keep Electronics At A Safe Distance Away From Your Bed

It’s handy to keep your television and computer in your bedroom, but these electronics can make it more difficult for you to fall asleep, especially if you use them after dark. The brightness of the computer or television screen can actually inhibit the natural release of melatonin in your body after the sun goes down. The sleep-wake cycle in your body is disrupted, making it difficult to fall asleep. Another reason to keep electronics at a safe distance from your bed is that these electronics release electromagnetic radiation, which disrupts the release of melatonin and can put your body into a fight-or-flight state.

We at OnlineClock.net highly recommend that you do NOT use your mobile phone as your alarm clock, since it is unclear if having your phone located too near to your head may have some negative health side effects. Even if you don’t actually wake up, loud noises during the night are likely to disrupt your sleep and make you feel groggy and irritable in the morning. If you want to wake up happy and rested, get rid of as much noise during the night as you can. People who usually sleep well and wake up refreshed almost always have bedtime routines that they follow consistently. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but you may take your vitamins, brush your teeth, lay out your clothes for the next morning and read a book for half-an-hour before going to sleep. Do this every night and you are likely to begin waking up feeling great. It is important to follow your exact routine every night and always do it at the same time. People often want to change their routine on the weekends, but the most effective bedtime routines are the ones that are consistent.

8. Schedule Fun Things in the Morning

If you are finding yourself unmotivated to get out of bed in the morning, try scheduling a quick cup of coffee with a friend before work or something else that makes you happy. Many people tend to schedule the tasks that they hate the most for the morning to get them over with quicker, but starting your day with something positive is a better plan because the first hour you are at work often sets the tone for the entire day. Scheduling something fun or exciting in the morning gives you a great reason to get out of bed and will motivate you to go to bed earlier so that morning will arrive sooner. Try leaving a reminder of your fun activity next to your alarm so that you won’t hit the snooze button and miss out on the fun.

You may think that hitting the snooze button will give you a few extra minutes of sleep, but the constant disruption of an alarm is likely to make you grouchy in the morning. It is better to set your alarm for the latest time that you can get up and still get to work on time than set your alarm for an earlier time and hit the snooze button repeatedly.
